Separated At Birth?

The Canadian-born, pompous liberal chief of Vanity Fair, Graydon Carter, has been consumed with bad-mouthing America and President George W. Bush for much of the past five years. He parlayed his anti-Bush sentiments into a 2004 book, What We’ve Lost, which did not exactly set the publishing world on fire but delighted Bush haters.

In fact, some keen observers of the Carter agenda, such as The New York Observer’s Toby Young, believe he began going after Bush simply because Carter “hoped to elevate his status in the eyes of his Hollywood friends.” That’s not wild speculation. He has become as caught up in executive producing films as in editing his magazine. The Carter bio at VanityFair.com indicates he is working on four films as we speak.

Now, it appears, Carter has a new ambition — to get cozy, or cozier, with the Barack Hussein Obama camp. Why else would Vanity Fair commit more than 9,600 words to an examination of Bill Clinton’s “behavior” while traversing America on behalf of Hillary Clinton’s Presidential campaign? It was written by VF national editor Todd Purdum, who is also known in some circles as the spouse of former Bill Clinton press secretary Dee Dee Myers.

A reviewer for the San Diego Union writes today that the Purdum piece on Bill Clinton is so powerful (in its dissection of Clinton’s personal conduct) that it might, once and for all, permanently change his image. And permanently maintain Graydon Carter’s position on the “A” guest list during an Obama administration?

Carter seemed positively stunned by Bill Clinton’s harsh reaction to the piece, including Clinton’s rant to a blogger that Purdum is a “scumbag”. Carter said Clinton’s response was “characteristic, but nevertheless shocking.”

I’ll tell you what’s shocking — Carter’s striking resemblance to another of history’s famous America bashers. Have a look:
