Venti Sized Madness

You can not even buy a cup of Starbucks coffee without risking bombardment by the destructive left wing loons. Today, Starbucks’ cup sleeves are being issued in red, white and blue. Nothing offensive about that, of course.

But look closer. Printed on the sleeve are the words of Franklin D. Roosevelt from his 1933 inauguration speech: “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself …” He was wrong, history tells us. Americans back then should have been very afraid of the New Deal. Just as Americans now should be fearful of Barack Hussein Obama’s government-is-the-answer game plan.

If I am a Starbucks employee, I am afraid today. The company closed 616 U.S. stores in 2008, eliminating thousands of jobs. If I am an employee, I am asking, “Who approved the FDR propaganda sleeves, and how much did that little print run cost?”

I have scoured the Internet this morning and have, so far, failed to find the answer. But even assuming cheap, offshore labor was used to produce the sleeves, the cost has got to be staggering.

And, yet …

This is a company that witnessed a 96% decline in net third-quarter profit between 2007 and 2008.

This is a company whose stock is off 49.3% in the past 12 months, which is a worse performance than that of leading indices such as the S&P 500.

This is a company that took delivery in December of a $45 million, 19-seat executive jet.

This is a company that has suspended matching contributions to employees’ 401k retirement accounts.

Be very afraid.
