You’ve heard him say it how many times? The Presidential Teleprompter has expressed a sense of urgency about new health care legislation (it is certainly not “reform”) almost nonstop since Jan. 20.
So we can only imagine how deeply torn Barack Hussein Obama must have been Thursday night. There he was in Chicago, stuck inside the Gold Coast home of the wealthy socialite (aka, health care underwriter) Penny Pritzker with a bunch of Democratic National Committee elites. They paid $15,200 a plate to hear from The One, who no doubt delivered a few new one-liners about gun clinging religious zealots and “stupid” white police officers.
At least he had a compliant choir toward which to preach about the need for obscenely expensive nationalized health care.
As he served his upscale Kool-Aid — before moving to the Chicago Hyatt (Pritzker owned) for a less intimate get together with 750 potential “victims” of capitalism run amok — Obama had to know what was happening a few miles south, at Soldier Field. And it must have been gnawing at him.
There, as of 9 p.m. CT, more than 55,000 soccer fans (Obama’s statisticians know them better as “uninsured”) were assembled on a lovely summer night to watch their beloved national teams from Mexico and Costa Rica face off in a semifinal match of the Gold Cup. Imagine how they’d have swooned in his presence. Imagine the voter loyalty he might have forged (ACORN Playbook, page 327) amid the promise of reformed health care and liberation from Emergency Room physicians (at least until the soccer fanatics later discovered they might have to pay for the privilege), and all manner of medical benefits to be funded by wealthy racial profilers.
BHO could have demonstrated his boundless capacity to be the World President that Newsweek magazine wants him to be, not merely the leader of the embarrassing United States. He could have apologized for the failure of previous administrations to nationalize youth soccer and make it mandatory for every child, whether they want to play or not. He could have pledged that, henceforth, Mexico and Costa Rica licensed products will be his leisurewear of choice, and formally declare them the National Teams of the U.S.
Earlier in the evening, Team USA defeated Honduras 2-0. Oh, the shame.
CHICAGO (July 23, 2009) — Mexico made it back to in the Gold Cup final, outlasting Costa Rica 5-3 on penalties Thursday after playing to a 1-1 draw. Forward Carlos Vela converted the fifth and decisive penalty kick to send the Soldier Field crowd of 55,173 into a frenzy and Mexican players into celebration. The United States beat Honduras 2-0 in the first semifinal.
